SHAREA SAMUELS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR
From dancer to actress, Para-Trooper to surfer and now currently blessing the screens of Jamaica as a TV Host, there’s nothing that Sharea Samuels can not do. She has accomplished so much books and films cold be made of this talented star….
Born to Arabian / Jamaican parents, they should’ve named her “Energy”, instead they chose Sharea. A free spirit and one that definitely doesn’t play by the rules. Her first release of creativity was through street dance. Sharea trained with the RBKC Dance Troupe and was able to perform for 4 consecutive years for the French Independence Day in Cannes.
From dancer to actress? Without any acting experience, Sharea was spotted by Chris Obi and he introduced her to Casting Director Des Hamilton. within weeks Sharea was thrown into the deep end as she was cast as supporting lead in the UK 1st British Urban Film, “Bullet Boy” alongside Ashley Walters. Most would call it luck, but it’s actually all about pure raw talent.
With the movie taking a year to be released, it can be more than a little frustrating trying to get a role in another movie when your work hasn’t been seen before and no one knows who you are so with no understanding of the industry Sharea couldn’t sit still and went on to her next adventure and decided to take part in a 6 month expedition organised by her local youth centre, which was to understand the roles of ethnic minority soldiers during World War II. So they joined the British Pathfinders and trained to become a Para-trooper for the Dutch Army so that she could take part in the 60th Anniversary for World War II.
After the release of Bullet Boy, Sharea moved to Jamaica and decided to get back into the film industry but not so much as an actress but instead behind the camera. She went from being a PA to a Production Manager and then on to being 1st Assistant Director for Jamaican feature film “Better Mus Come”. Eventually everyone wanted Sharea to be part of their productions, either acting or behind the cameras. She was also cast for Jamaican short film “Missed” staring the talented Roger Guenevera Smith (American Gangster).
While in Jamaica, Sharea developed a love for surfing. She trained everyday in 2007 so much that she became good enough to enter competitions. She was ranked 5th in Jamaica and 7th in the Caribbean. Soon she became a part of the Jamaican National team.
Coming back to the UK in 2010 Sharea signed to an agency, and has since been here, featured in various commercials from Kelloggs Special K , to Adidas, and had lead role in “Betsy & Leonard” as well as roles in “The Intent”. Currently She is supporting Lead role in movie “No Shade” which has currently got theatrical release in USA.
After a tragic accident in her community where she lost friends and family in Grenfel Tower Fire, Sharea decide to move back to Jamaica to realign herself with a more holistic approach in life. Whilst in Jamaica the camera is never too far away and in 2018 Sharea had a featured role in the Red Stripe National “Stand Up” Campaign as well as Billboards for Hyundai. She was 1st Assitantt Director on another Jamaican feature film “Behind Close Doors” which will have cinema release end of 2019.
Currently Sharea is a TV Host for Flow Sports Channel which airs Nationally around the Caribbean. She is currently working on her own Travel Show “Bare Foot Brownie” which she will be shooting a Pilot for at the start of May.
A book could still be written about this young woman’s bravery, strength and energy, but she’d probably still want to accomplish more. The world is her dance floor and so much of her talent is still to be seen..
